Identifying students

We look for students who are able to do the following;

  • Pupils demonstrate in depth understanding of messages and values communicated by a wide range of media texts

  • They analyse and interpret connotations within texts with ease and in great detail

  • There will be a personal insight and informed comment on media producers and their organizational contexts.

  • Evaluations will show informed personal engagement

  • Consistently make use of a range of imaginative and appropriate techniques when producing own texts

Extension Activities

LBBD Film school & Film festival - Help pupils to understand filmmaking process and gives them an opportunity to create their own short

World Cinema task - To extend pupils’ knowledge as well as appreciation of diverse cultures and issues as represented by non English speaking film makers

National Schools Film Week - Expose pupils to a variety of feature films and shorts in order to widen their appreciation of cinema

FRE Workshop - Learn how to script, storyboard, shoot and edit a film in 3 days

School Music & Drama dept events - Film key events for dept. Use and improve film making skills.

Journalism Workshop - Develop understanding of the role of the media while sharpening their critical thinking and writing skills

Group visit to film screening - To enhance textual analysis skills

TV News - Pupils get hand on experience of working and running a TV Studio. The aim of the session is to produce a live News broadcast to include VTR
