Identifying students
Pupils who are gifted in maths are likely to:

• Learn and understand mathematical ideas quickly;
• Work systematically and accurately;
• Be more analytical,
• Ask questions that show clear understanding of, and curiosity about mathematics;
• Take a creative approach to solving mathematical problems;
• Do well on formal assessments in school

Students are selected as 'Gifted and talented' if they fulfil the above. Our Schemes of Work have been designed to ensure equal opportunities for all students so that they can realise their full potential.

• The progress of Gifted and Talented students is monitored in the same way as with other students; via progress reports, homework and end of half term test scores. The department also carries out surveys of student views about their learning in order to gain valuable feedback.
• The class teacher updates the 'Gifted and talented' names of students which is kept on the school's shared computer area. The teacher with responsibility for the key stage will liaise with the class teachers to help develop the mathematical experiences that the G & T students are exposed to as part of their overall role within the school.

Extension Tasks for all GCSE groups

To date a range of activities have been organised for our G&T students ranging from Saturday enhancement classes, maths master classes at Queen Mary College, Trips, after school clubs and classes, accelerated examination entry, London maths challenge competitions where we have won many prizes, world class tests, A/A* extension classes and special maths workshops led by the 'Happy Puzzle Company'. The department also uses a range of e-learning media in order to promote individualised learning such as www.mymaths.co.uk where students can do 'booster' lessons and www.intermep.org where students can access all the materials that are used as a basis for maths lessons in school
