YEAR 7 FAST FOOD RESTAURANT PROJECT
Year 7 is taken up with the design, fabrication and assembly of an architectural scale model of a fast food restaurant. Students work through a design process of a Situation / brief, Research, Initial Designs, Final Design Manufacture, Assembly and Evaluation.

Processes worked through in year 7 include Use of Drawing Boards and instruments, Joining Wood, Finishing materials, Modelling, Jigs, Use of Hand Tools, Use of Pillar Drill and Line Bending.

Theory covered in year 7 includes The Design Process, Scale, Structures, Logo Design, Floorplans, Working to grids, Plastics and Types of wood/manufactured board.

YEAR 8 BUGGY PROJECT

Year 8 is taken up with the design, fabrication and assembly of a robotic buggy. Design work includes the body shape and the handset.

Processes worked through in year 8 include Vacuum forming, Tapping & Threading, Brazing (flux, spelter etc), Use of the lathe, Use of the pillar drill, Filing, Use of Centre punch, Use of Scribers, Use of Disc sander, Soldering of circuits and use of jigs.

Theory covered in year 8 includes
Thermoplastics/Thermosetting Plastics,Deformation of plastics, Gear ratios, Electronics, Remote control, Use of jigs in industry, Metals and alloys, Manufactured boards and Orthographic/Isometric drawing.

YEAR 9 MOBILE PHONE PROJECT
Year 9 is taken up with the design, fabrication and assembly of a block model of a mobile phone. The emphasis of the project is on CAD/CAM (Computer Aide Design / Computer Aided Manufacture). Students work through a complete design process of a Situation / brief, Research, Initial Designs, Design Development, Final Design, Computer Aided Design, Computer Aided Manufacture, Assembly and Evaluation.

Processes worked through in year 9 include Vacuum forming, CAD using Techsoft 2D Design and CAM using Roland Modela CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Machines.

Theory covered in year 9 includes CAD/CAM in industry, Injection Moulding, The history and development of the mobile phone, Product analysis and Design in industry.
