Child Development

SYLLABUS DETAILS

The course looks at human needs and how these are met in our society.

Subject content includes:

  • The family – structure/organisation
  • Pre-conceptual care
  • Pregnancy
  • Birth
  • Post natal care
  • Emotional. Physical and intellectual development ages 0-5
  • Child care provision
  • I.T. Skills are also developed


Assessment details:

  • 1 Child study (for 6 months) assignment 40%
    1 board prescribed task 30% }
    1 final examination 30%

Example of Coursework:

  • Plan and make an item that will help your child achieve a social skill

  • And many others which involve working with children and adults

 

 

 

 

 

Students are taught using a range of new slideshow resources with images, sounds and virtual teachers to help them understand different aspects of child development. All resources are on the School shared area for students to access in their own time or to catch up with lessons they may have missed. Students are tested at the end of each small unit.

They are also encouraged to order the Lonsdale revision guide for Child development to help them with coursework and theory work.

 

WJEC CHILD DEVELOPMET GCSE

Students 30% Board Prescribed Task is based children’s Diet. Students design and make items that are then taken to the Barking Abbey crèche for students to evaluate their work. The local Press are also invited to celebrate their achievement.
