GCSE Dance: Content and Assessment

This course is an academic route that leads nicely onto the Dance A-Level course, you will have both practical and theory based lessons.

WRITTEN PAPER (2hrs - 20%)
Section A: Short answer questions on dance principles.
Section B: Set Work focus (Frontline)
Section C: Essay question on area of study ie Costumes. This has to include 4 other works and the set work.

SET STUDY (20%)
Performance of a dance of approx. one minute, every student in the country performs the exact same dance.

COURSEWORK

PERFORMANCE OF A GROUP DANCE (20%)
This is made for the whole group by Miss Lowe and Miss Fulham.

CHOREOGRAPHY (30%)
This is choreographed by you, it can either be a solo dance or a group dance. You cannot dance in your own group dance.

 

EXPANDED PROGRAMME NOTE (10%)
This is 750 words, written notes about your choreography, the examiner will read this before watching your choreography to be able to understand the main idea and motifs of your dance.
