Diploma in Dance
This is a vocational course
thatis equivalent t0 4 GCSe's and would suit students who want to
perform or gain a career in Dance. Students will have two practical
lessons a week and will study the following units.
All students will complete 5
units:
YEAR 1
UNIT 1: Performing Dance
- 1 Be able to participate in practical
dance workshops.
- 2 Understand the basic physical
and interpretive skills.
- 3 Be able to demonstrate an awareness
of appropriate
styles and qualities in performance.
- 4 Know how to review own progress
in rehearsal and
performance.
UNIT 2: Understanding Dance
- 1 Understand social and historical
contexts in the development
of dance.
2 Be able to demonstrate the components of dance.
3 Be able to respond to the choreographic process.
Year 2
UNIT 1: The Performing Arts
Business
- 1 Know how to carry out planning
requirements for a performing
arts product.
- 2 Be able to take part in the
developmental process for a
performing arts product.
- 3 Understand the purpose of
the planning and preparation
process in the creation of a performing arts product.
UNIT 2: Jazz
Dance
- 1 Understand the relationship
between music, accompaniment
and jazz dance.
- 2 Be able to perform the key
features of a jazz dance style.
- 3 Be able to perform studies
and combinations within the jazz
style.
Year 3
Performing Arts Production Process
- 1 Understand areas of business
practise in the performing arts.
- 2 Understand job opportunities
in the performing arts.
3 Be able to apply financial practises to a specific performing
arts production.
- 4 Be able to apply marketing
practises to a specific performing
arts production.
