Prerequisites :
GCSE Dance at Grade B or above or comparative experience
gained outside school to be approved in interview. All students
will be required to audition and the Dance Department’s
decision is final.

Choreographer, Performer, Arts Administrator, Dance Critic, Dance Historian, Dance Teacher, Notator.

Dance is a Performing Arts option that examines a variety of cultural influences.

The course is divided into units, the first three being the AS course component and the last three the A2 part, which build upon the knowledge gained in the previous units and lead to the full A-Level qualification.

The unit content is as follows:

The AS Course (Year 1)

Unit 1: Practical Exam, Solo Choreography and Performance.
40% of the total AS mark.
20% of the total A Level mark.

Unit 2: Coursework Essay – Analysis and Recording (Notation).
30% of the total AS mark.
15% of the total A Level mark.

Unit 3: Written Exam (2.5 hours) – Understanding Dance.
30% of the total AS mark.
15% of the total A level mark.

The A Level (Year 2)

Unit 4: Practical Exam– Group Choreography.
30% of the total A2 marks.
15% of the total A Level mark.

Unit 5: Practical Exam– Performance.
30% of the total A2 marks.
15% of the total A Level mark.

Unit 6: Written Exam (3hr) Appreciation: Content and Context.
40% of the total A2 marks.
20% of the total A Level mark .
