Careers department

Welcome to our small but very busy department!

This is staffed by two professionally- trained Careers Guidance Advisers who job-share the role of Careers Coordinator/Adviser:

Careers Library
Careers Library

The Careers Office is situated at Upper School (next to A23) where it has spacious accommodation for library resources, I.T facilities, study tables and chairs and a private interview room.
Careers resources are also available in the library at Lower School for Year 7 and 8 pupils.

If you need careers guidance and advice what do you do?

  • students can call in to the Careers Office at break or lunchtimes, during free periods and after school to speak to the Careers Adviser. Appointments will be booked if necessary also in collaboration with advisers from Barking Connexions Centre.
  • students and parents can email the Advisers with any queries via the school email system
  •  speak to us at parents events/link evenings especially at crucial decision times such as Year 8 GCSE Option choices and Sixth Form choices. Parents are welcome to phone us during school hours for advice and information. 
  • students should make use of the resources available in the careers library to research their ideas including:
    • leaflets/books about hundreds of careers and jobs
    • 6th Form, college and university prospectuses
    • info on student finance
    • apprenticeships/job vacancy bulletins
    • C.V preparation/application forms/interview skills
    • Computer packages/websites e.g. Kudos, Careerscape, FastTomato. Jobs4u

Other Activities we are involved in

  • Work experience coordination
  • Trips to Universities and other careers events
  • Careers/options talks delivered to small groups of students through Citizenship

 

The department is currently working towards the “Investors in Careers” quality award
