The Governing Body

All schools have a governing body which is responsible, with the local education authority, for the general oversight of the school. They generally meet at least once a term. There is an annual meeting in the Autumn Term between the parents and the Governors, where a review of the school's work is outlined. There is an opportunity for questions to be asked at this meeting.

My Administrations and Sales experience has gained me good standing with fellow Governors and Head Teachers that I have come across.

I am a good team member and a hands on member of most of the positions I have applied my skills to.

Mr David Burns

I was a Parent Governor at Laindon Park and Clara Grant Schools when we lived in Bow. I have always paid a keen interest in the schools my children attend. I am a Managing Director of an electrical company that employs 43 people and worked my way to that position from an early position of electrician, so I can work well in large groups, small groups, have a good working knowledge of budgets and deadlines. I am also a Freemason and proud to be so due to the fund-raising we do. My position allows me certain time freedoms so I would be able to attend meetings.

Mrs Rehana Chitbahal

I would be a great asset to the parent governor team as I am so enthusiastic about children and for them to get the best out of their education. Whether academically or not I would like to promote all aspects of education. Giving children exposure to lots of different and diverse experiences, in all areas of their school life including social activities, sporting and leisure activities, cultural and religious exposure also I would want to help children with Special Needs, great or small to get the best possible help without them feeling alone or vulnerable. I have three wonderful boys who are a great pleasure ageing from eleven to two and so I have a great deal of parental experience but also my second child has some special needs and so I can fully understand others with needs too.

Mrs Susan O’Malley

I am married with 2 children and work part time as a Support Manager. I have been a resident of London Borough of Barking and Dagenham all my life and as a child attended the local infant, junior and secondary schools. Both my children attended the local primary schools. My eldest child was previously a pupil at Barking Abbey for 7 years before progressing to University. My youngest is presently a pupil in Year 7. I have been actively involved with my children’s school’s PTA’s, holding the posts of Secretary of Manor PTA for 9 years then Chair for 1 and Secretary of Barking Abbey for 3 years. I am a firm believer in traditional family values. I think education is the most important gift we can give our children so it is crucial we get it right first time as there are not always second chances.

Finally I believe in Local Schools for Local Children.
